Downloading Files from Your BC-workspace

You are strongly encouraged to work only within BRAINCommons™ secure BC-workspaces and to only download the minimum necessary data for your research work and publications. To ensure that data that has not been permitted by its contributors to be downloaded out of BRAINCommons, all download requests must be submitted for review and approval by the BRAINCommons team.

The entire process is done in a few simple steps and once your request has been approved you will be able to download your files from within  BRAINCommons choosing from a number of different delivery options.

Note

The BRAINCommons team will need to view all files included in your request in order to ensure that they all comply with permissible uses as set by the corresponding Data Contributors. We will not create any copies outside BRAINCommons and we will only access your data solely for the purposes of reviewing your download request.

Step 1: Create a "Shopping Cart" of files

All files that you would like to include in your download request must be in the "Persistent Storage" directory of your BC-workspace. You can select the files you would like to add to your request and add them to your "Shopping Cart" by going to the "File Directory" of your BC-workspace. You can add files to your Shopping cart one by one or by selecting multiple and clicking the Shopping Cart icon.

You can review the contents of your Shopping Cart at any time, by clicking on the Shopping Cart icon at the top.

Step 2: Submit for approval

Once you have placed all your files in your Shopping Cart, you will need to submit it for approval.

A member of the BRAINCommons team will review your files and decide whether your request can be accepted. We may have to contact you for more information if required.

Step 3: Checkout and Delivery

When your Order Status becomes "Ready for Download" you will be able to proceed to checkout.

You can do so from your WorkSpace File Download Orders in the "My Stuff" page.

On the next page, you will have the option to select from two available delivery methods:

  1. Direct Download: your Project file will be downloaded directly from your browser. This is only recommended for smaller Projects that will only take a few minutes to download.
  2. Copy to S3 bucket: your Project file will be copied to a S3 bucket of your choice. This option is recommended for larger downloads that would take too long to download from the browser.

Important!

You can only use S3 buckets in US East-1 AWS region and you must ensure that the BRAINCommons IAM Policy is added to it, so that BRAINCommons can connect to it and copy the files.

Note

You need to have sufficient credits in your BC-workspace account in order to use any of the Delivery methods. If your balance is not sufficient, you will need to request a top up.
